Movies That Make You Put Down the Remote (And Stay Up Way Too Late)

True Grit (Glen Campbell album)

Nearly perfect.

I have a pretty easy rubric for knowing which movies are my favorite.  When I find it on TV, will I watch it till the end no matter what point it’s at and no matter how late at night it is?  For these, the answer is “yes.”   In no particular order:

  • True Grit (original)
  • Batman (1989)
  • Remember The Titans
  • The Godfather
  • The Godfather Part II
  • Legends of the Fall
  • The Graduate
  • A Few Good Men

I’m sure I’ll think of more.  What are some of yours?

I forgot “How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days.”

    Love “True Grit.” Well played.

In other news, I’d add “Miracle” and “Finding Forrester,” the latter because I’m waiting the entire movie to hear Sean Connery say, “Scotland, for God’s sake!”

ha! You’re the man, now, dog.
Miracle is a good call. I real close one for me, now that I think about it.

For me it’s Taxi Driver. The first time I ever saw that movie was on AMC in junior high, and it was the first movie that gave me an appreciation for older films. Taxi Driver is the reason I watched and fell in love with The Godfather.

That one and American History X. That might be the most powerful movie I’ve ever seen.

AMC did a lot for film in that regard. I miss the days when it was a random cable channel showing old movies. Talk about serendipity.

    Guilty pleasure…Roadhouse
    Bridges of Madison County
    Shenandoah (Jimmy Stewart)
    King of Kings (Jeffrey Hunter)
The King and I (who else but Yul!)
I shouldn’t have started this list. Just way too many!

OH, and if I EVER See Seven Brides for Seven Brothers on tv, I will watch the crap out of that. It’s never on :(

    • Christopher Cocca · November 2, 2011

Except for that one time, when it was, and I was all like: “wait, this movie is about kidnapping women!” And you were all like “just until the spring thaw” and I was like “what?!?!?”

But there are fabulous musical numbers! ;) you forgot The Breakfast Club, which I enjoy watching on tbs when they air the version that was dubbed 20 years ago. I’ll watch anything 80srific with Molly Ringwold if it is on.
