An Open Note to the President: You Make It Hard

I had a very good conversation with someone last night about all of my fears about a Romney presidency as it relates to the poor, the homeless, and people on the bubble.  I also still fear he’s a vapid power addict, but whatever.  I pray for him.

But President Obama.  Please stop saying things like “sometimes I forget how bad the recession is.”  You need to win the relatability (and empathy and common sense!) race going away.  It shouldn’t even be close.  Please don’t make it easier for Romney to say he’s not that much worse at understanding the needs of the working poor than you are…please don’t make it easier for him to say he understands the magnitude of the recession better than progressive forces on the ground (who have to support you, sir, by default) do.  Please don’t make our jobs (our actual jobs of caring for people) harder than they already are.

That is all.

Dude. Put a stamp on it and mail it to him. Because THIS.

He should give me a call. I’d be glad to offer my first-person narrative in order to jog his memory.
